Abstract
The author states that the main character of the social-realistic movie “Przygoda na Mariensztacie” (“An Adventure on Mariensztat”, directed by Leonard Buczkowski in 1954) is the city of Warsaw. Although the love story of the two main characters (Hanka and Janek) which arose and flourished during the reconstruction of the capital (the 1950s), does push forward the action, it is there mostly to show the city. The capital reveals itself as the main character, although if the movie is watched without due attention it may seem to be only the story‟s background. From the first words said in the movie until the very unnatural shot at the end the only important heroine is Warsaw.
