Samoocena ruchliwości międzypokoleniowej w kontekście przemian struktury społecznej

The aim of this paper is to discuss intergenerational mobility in Poland. Main attention is given to subjective perception of social mobility. The author is interested in how individuals perceive, explain and assess their social position and trajectory, and thereby how dynamics of social structure is intertwined with personal experience. She discusses social mobility in terms of objective measures and categories, with particular focus on comparison between respondents’ social status and their fathers’ status, and thereafter compares it with subjective perception of upward or downward social mobility. The analysis is based on three waves of POL-PAN survey (1988, 2013, 2018), an academic research project conducted by the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Od diagnozy do skutecznej polityki edukacyjnej: potrzeba reorientacji w badaniach nad nierównościami w edukacji

The paper discusses to what extent current research meets the expectations of policies aimed at reducing inequalities in education. Initially, inequalities in education were perceived as a result of the incomplete accessibility of schools for disadvantaged social categories. It was believed that inequalities would decrease with the further reforms of education systems. However, along with the expansion of education, research showed that inequality did not decrease, but began to move to ever higher levels of the school system. It raised expectations that research results should help decision makers search for effective solutions to reduce educational inequalities. The author addresses the question of whether research has met this challenge and proposes to extend the scope of collected data to increase its usability in educational policy.

Ruchliwość społeczna i wzory zawierania małżeństw w Polsce

This paper presents findings on the changes in social stratification in Poland, with particular attention given to mobility and marital choices. The author begins with an overview of the concept of social mobility, i.e. shifting of individuals or other categories in social space, including its definitions, indicators, patterns and mechanisms. Next, based on a set of empirical data, the author discusses the patterns of mobility and martial choices in the aftermath of 1989 transition in Poland. Special attention is given to the analysis of the openness of Polish society, opportunities for intergenerational mobility and its consequences.

Imigranci wietnamscy w Polsce – dynamika przemian społeczności według urzędowych danych statystycznych

The paper looks at the selected issues related to the Vietnamese community in Poland. The author presents a brief history of migration from Vietnam to Poland, the current status of the research on Vietnamese minority and migration patterns of Vietnamese people. Next, she discusses characteristics of Vietnamese community in Poland on the basis of official statistical data. Particular attention is given to the size and distribution of the community, occupational careers and position in the labour market.
