Factors of competitiveness vs. level and dynamics of economic growth in the European regional space

The objective of the hereby study is the analysis and assessment of interrelations occurring between the selected attributes of regions’ competitiveness, as well as the level and dynamics of economic growth. Spatial scope of the research is based on regional division of the European Union countries, for which NUTS II units, defined according to the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics, have become the points of reference. Time span of the research covers one year – 2005. The level and dynamics of Gross Domestic Product and attributes illustrating region’s competitiveness like: production factors, social and economic climate, related and supporting sectors, constitute basic characteristics used for the analysis. Analysis of Employment Structure Diversification in Czech, Polish and Slovak Regions

The article presents NUTS 2 level classification of Czech, Polish and Slovak regions with reference to sector structure of employment in 2000 and 2008. Classes comprising relatively homogenous Polish, Czech and Slovak regions were identified for the study. The analysis of changes regarding composition and descriptive parameters was performed in relation to the obtained classes in both studied periods of time. Multidimensional statistical analysis was used for the research with particular emphasis on cluster analysis methods.

Przeprowadzone badania skupiają się na analizach przestrzennych i czasowo - przekrojowych z wykorzystaniem wskaźników gender stosowanych w statystyce międzynarodowej.

Smart workforce structures versus regional development in European Union countries of new accession (EU12)

The first objective of the hereby paper is to present dynamic analysis and assessment of workforce structure in EU12 countries based on structural and geographical shift-share analysis (SSA). Workforce structure in economic sectors, distinguished based on R&D work intensity, was the subject of diversification and transformations assessment. The second aim of the paper is to assess relations between smart specialization and economic cohesion by measuring both the intensity and direction of their mutual relations.Thestudy was conducted among countries and NUTS-2 level regions of new accession from 2004 and 2007 (EU12).
