The purpose of this article is to reflect on the Aristotle’s current notion of a man who is rightly proud of its present sense. From this notion, we extract one particular com-ponent – shame as an essential feature of human dignity. From our perspective shame is both an ethical concept and a specific description of aesthetic reaction to the phenomena of the external world, especially the world of culture. We will base our re-flections on the one hand on the remarks on the Christian roots of our culture, on the other hand on the ethics propagated by modern conservative circles.
