Potential of industrial symbiosis towards circular economy – a case of Poland
(Wydział Inżynierii Zarządzania Politechniki Białostockiej, 2024) Abbas, Muhammad Faizan; Abbas, Zaheer; Godlewska, Joanna; Bialystok University of Technology, Faculty of Engineering Management
The aim of this study is to investigate the role of industrial symbiosis in fostering a circular economy in Poland, with a particular emphasis on the contributions of various sectors to material circularity. Industrial symbiosis, which involves using waste or by-products from one industry as inputs for another, is identified as a key mechanism for achieving resource efficiency and sustainability. This research conducts a thorough analysis of statistical data from the past decade to pinpoint key sectors crucial for enhancing material circularity, with the mining sector emerging as a critical focus due to its significant environmental impact and resource recovery potential. The study's findings underscore the substantial benefits of shifting from a traditional linear economy to a circular economic model. By adopting industrial symbiosis practices, industries can markedly reduce their material footprint, lower environmental impacts, and create new economic opportunities. The research highlights the importance of policy frameworks and incentives to encourage the adoption of circular practices. It also addresses the challenges and opportunities of implementing industrial symbiosis, such as the need for technological advancements, industry collaboration, and supportive regulatory environments. In conclusion, this study offers valuable insights into the implementation of industrial symbiosis as a strategy for advancing the circular economy in Poland. The results indicate that such practices not only support sustainable development goals but also enhance the overall resilience of the economy. This research contributes to a broader understanding of how industrial symbiosis can be effectively leveraged to achieve sustainability and resource efficiency at a national level.

Identification of demand for electric vehicles charging stations on the example of voivodeships in Poland
(Wydział Inżynierii Zarządzania Politechniki Białostockiej, 2024) Paradiso, Simone; Leończuk, Dorota; University of Naples Federico II; Bialystok University of Technology, Faculty of Engineering Management
The main purpose of the article is to identify areas where more electric vehicle charging stations should be located, on the example of Polish voivodeships. The following sections of the article review the literature on the development of electric vehicles charging infrastructure, as well as the methods and models proposed for determining the location of charging stations. Then, models were presented that identify the Polish voivodeships where more charging points should be located. The analysis was conducted on data relating to the voivodeship, due to the difficulties in finding more detailed actual data. The aim is to check whether there are voivodeships more suitable than others to have more charging points. The results can be used, for example, by the government to better direct economic resources towards this purpose. An exploratory analysis was performed using some clustering algorithms in order to find more relevant areas. In the article, a hierarchical algorithm and K-means clustering were used.

Perspective of future use of autonomous robotaxes in cities
(Wydział Inżynierii Zarządzania Politechniki Białostockiej, 2023) Panasewicz, Klaudia; Jorge, Adrian Alonso; Bialystok University of Technology, Faculty of Engineering Management; Burgos University, Higher Polytechnic School of Burgos
Today, many cities are using modern technology to be able to make it easier for people to get around and move around. One of them is the use of robotaxes, which are autonomous and multifunctional. The purpose of the article is to identify autonomous robotaxes and determine the perspectives of their use in cities. The article discusses the use of robotaxes and provides examples of selected models of autonomous robotaxes. The characteristics of the vehicles were prepared on the basis of literature review and websites. A SWOT analysis was also conducted to show the strengths and weaknesses of the Motional IONIQ 5 robotaxis test solution, as well as the opportunities and threats associated with its application. The results of the analysis show the many strengths and opportunities, as well as the weaknesses and threats of transporting people by means of an autonomous vehicle.

Almond market dynamics and strategic planning
(Wydział Inżynierii Zarządzania Politechniki Białostockiej, 2022) Pawluczuk, Andrzej; Martiri, Edlira; Nuno Dos Santos Cardoso, Pedro; Gorica, Arsa; Bialystok University of Technology, Faculty of Engineering Management; University of Tirana, Faculty of Economics; Universidade de Évora, School of Social Sciences, Department of Management
This paper highlights the value chain of the almond oil industry. The research objectives are to understand and explain how value emerges as a result of agricultural industry dynamics, to investigate the effect of speculative dynamics and inventories in agricultural industries and make policy analysis and recommendations in order to maintain the economical sustainability of Almond Oil Industry. The elaboration was prepared using the software Vensim, education version. The result of the analysis could be applied in a context in order to predict and correct the possible scenarios in order to better the situation studied on alomond market.

Local participation in creating development strategy
(Wydział Inżynierii Zarządzania Politechniki Białostockiej, 2022) Pawluczuk, Andrzej; Bialystok University of Technology, Faculty of Engineering Management
This paper describe the issue of residents' participation in the process of creating a local development strategy. The author presented the results of a study concerning the residents' activity, their structure and the scope of participation for three selected strategies: one for the voivodeship level and two local strategies for the communal level. The requirement of including residents in the process of establishing the strategy for a voivodeship results directly from the law, and as for the local level, consulting the strategy is recommended. The inclusion of residents in the process of creating the development strategy requires taking various actions and using various tools. In the analyzed cases, these were: a survey, meetings with stakeholders, expert panels and informing of the work on the strategy through the media. The process of resident participation had a positive influence on the adoption of the development strategy document at the council session and enhanced the residents' awareness of the plans of the voivodeship's or commune's strategic development.
