O wójtach-młynarzach na Śląsku Cieszyńskim w latach 1864–1918. Przypadek rodu Brachaczków z Kończyc Małych

Abstract
While analysing the members of local elites in Cieszyn Silesia in the years 1864–1918 the millers should not be treated as a separate group, but rather as a subcategory of wealthy peasants. The article reconstructs the biographical entries of two millers who were the voyts of Kończyce Małe (today’s area of Cieszyn district): Wincenty Brachaczek (1825/1826–1870) and his son Jan (1858–1915) – a social activist. The analysis of their family and social connections allows to think that partial democratisation in Cieszyn Silesia meant, in practice, the interception of power by wealthy peasant families, which were connected to each other by family ties. Political (national) convictions were not absolutely long-lasting – W. Brachaczek voted simultaneously for Polish and German candidates in elections to the State Diet (Landtag, Sejm Krajowy) in Opava. On the other hand, J. Brachaczek, ‘the good Pole’, was taken into consideration by the German party as a candidate in elections to the State Diet.
