Abstract
Artykuł stanowi szkic z pogranicza historiografii i historii literatury, poświęcony problematyce etosu sarmackiego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jego formy rozwiniętej w XVII w. Podjęto próbę ujęcia zagadnienia w perspektywie porównawczej wobec etosu rycerskiego wcześniejszych epok, uwypuklając zarówno elementy kontynuowane, jak i przemiany. Tekst ma charakter zarysu problematyki, wskazującego kierunki dalszych badań nad etosem rycerskim tak sensu stricte, jak i nad jego formą sarmacką czy szerzej – XVII-wieczną i staropolską. Analiza wskazuje potencjalne, inspirujące obszary nowych pól badawczych nad omówionym zjawiskiem, których główną oś stanowi zaprezentowana koncepcja „syndromu oblężonego przedmurza” i jej implikacje.The article constitutes a sketch at the intersection of historiography and literary history, dedicated to the study of the Sarmatian ethos, with particular attention to its development in the seventeenth century. The issue is approached from a comparative perspective, considering the knightly ethos of earlier periods, highlighting both elements of continuity and change. The text serves as an outline of the topic, indicating directions for further research on the knightly ethos in a strict sense, as well as its Sarmatian form or, more broadly, its seventeenth-century and early modern Polish manifestations. The analysis identifies potential and stimulating areas for new research, centered on the concept of the “besieged bulwark syndrome” and its implications.
