Abstract
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest próba opisania historii Kennedych, jednej z najbardziej wpływowych familii w historii Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki, w kontekście przeplatania się ich losów z historią Polski od czasu przed II wojną światową, poprzez lata PRL, aż po koniec XX wieku. Wielość kontaktów pomiędzy przedstawicielami klanu a Polską jest rzeczą zasługującą na wspomnienie, gdyż są one powiązane z najważniejszymi wydarzeniami w XX-wiecznych dziejach naszego kraju, w tym z okresem tuż przed wybuchem II wojny światowej, z zimną wojną, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kulminacyjnego fragmentu tej historii, czyli okresu kariery politycznej Johna Fitzgeralda Kennedy’ego i jego prezydentury, zwanej Camelotem, oraz czasami „Solidarności”, zmierzchu komunistycznej władzy i wreszcie odrodzenia demokratycznej Polski.The purpose of this article is an attempt to describe the history of the Kennedys, one of the most influential families in the history of the United States of America, in the context of interlacing the fate of this family and Polish history since the eve of World War II, through the years of communist regime in Poland, until the end of the twentieth century. The multiplicity of contacts between representatives of the clan and Poland is a thing worthy of remembrance, as its individual elements are connected with the most important events in twentieth-century history of our country, including the period before the outbreak of World War II, the Cold War times, with particular emphasis on the culminating part of this history, the period of political career of John F. Kennedy and his presidency, which was called the Camelot, the time of “Solidarity” and the twilight of communist rule, and finally the revival of the democratic Poland.
