Abstract
Romany people are one of the biggest ethnic minorities in Romania. However, they still face racial discrimination on labor market, health care, education and other spheres of social life. Institutional protection of Roma is essential. It would assure juridical stability, human rights and struggle with discrimination on a national level. During the last decade, Romania has adopted principal national strategies of integration of Roma people assigned by European Union. It provides a basic improvement of Roma living conditions in four main areas: employment, housing, education and health care. Furthermore, there are few governmental and non-governmental Roma institutions which aim to create a positive image of Roma in the society and to promote an intercultural dialogue. They carry out plenty social and cultural projects aiming to fight against discrimination and to change obsolete stereotypes. One of the most noticeable and active organizations in Roma and human rights in general is Agenţia Ǐmpreună. Its work is considered to be highly inspirational and effective. The organization’s mission is to preserve and assert Roma identity in modern world. One of the recent projects implemented by Agenţiampreună is called What do you want to do when you grow up? This project is a component of UNICEF School Attendance Initiative and mainly concentrates on children aspirations and future dreams. It shows different examples of ordinary people with Roma origins who had achieved great success due to hard work and finished education. The main goal of the project is to motivate young Roma children to become more confident with personal dreams and ideas of future occupations. Power of dreams can change everything.
