Cudowna i pożyteczna Magda Gessler. O strukturze, znaczeniach i wartościach telewizyjnej baśni

Abstract
In this paper, the author carries out an analysis of the television show Kitchen Revolutions (based on the British series Kitchen Nightmares). Te analysis is conducted with focus on the first episode of the show, which is considered as exem-plary for the subsequent episodes. Firstly, the structure of the episode is examined in accordance with the Proppian scheme of a folk tale. On this basis, the show is recognized as a contemporary equivalent of a folk or fairy tale (there is an as-sumption in the article that fairy tales are one of many kinds of folk tales). Upon this analysis, the author draws a conclusion that Kitchen Revolutions fulfil similar roles to these carried out by the folk and fairy tales. It could be argued that, just like the tales, Kitchen Revolutions are of a therapeutic nature: the purpose of the show is to help the audience deal with everyday struggles, conquer their weaknesses and tame chaotic emotions. In this way, the television show can give meaning to one’s life in a similar way the fairy tales used to.
