Dzieje powojenne więzienia w Sieradzu
Abstract
Prison in Sieradz is a correctional facility with a long and rich history. It was founded in 1836 on the initiative of Count Fryderyk Skarbek, reformer of Polish criminal justice system, and its model was based on those being formed in the countries of Western Europe and the United States of America, and thus prison systems combining the implementation of punishment with a possibility to return to society. The aim of this work is to present the history of the prison in Sieradz during the years 1945-2012, up to the present times, with particular emphasis on the prisoners’ living conditions, working methods and ways of organizing it, as well as the evolution that took place in the prison system in Sieradz.
