Abstract
Responsible fatherhood as a response to the family crisis Contemporary world promotes the views which undermine the fundamental and traditional human values such as: marriage, family, fatherhood and motherhood. As far as fatherhood is concerned, nowadays it is, for various reasons, said to be in a deep crisis which is revealed in the social, family and religious sphere. The manifestations of this crisis include: the lack of the male and father’s authority, the absence of the father in educating children, and the lack of a clear concept of the role and tasks of a father, which results from the cultural changes. For these reason it is necessary to conduct a scientific reflection on the issue of fatherhood, especially on the mature and responsible fatherhood. Mature fatherhood consists in loving the wife and children, respecting them, constituting the warranty of the equal possibilities of development of all the family members and responsibility for the conceived life and for educating children. Responsible parenthood implies physical, spiritual, psychological and sexual maturity. A boy gradually grows up to be a responsible husband and father but it requires fulfilling certain educational conditions. These conditions include: healthy sexual education of the boy, the father’s expecting for the birth of his child, the father’s presence during childbirth and the active participation of the father in educating the child. One of the most important conditions for the mature fatherhood is the spiritual development of the candidate for a husband and a father as well as maintaining of the perspective of faith in perceiving his marriage and his vocation for fatherhood.
