Membership in open pension funds (OPFs) is mandatory for the citizens of Poland. People make two major decisions related to OPFs: concerning the initial choice of pension funds at the start of their professional career and, eventually, concerning the possibility of changing their pension fund. The aim of the paper is to analyze these decisions and the relation between such decisions and the returns, assets and advertising costs of pension funds. The effects of pension funds members behavior on the pension system are also considered in the conclusion.en
