In the last decades, thereʼs been a significant progress in the text typology research, and yet there are still numerous questions open. What are the criteria for classifying texts? Are these criteria intertextual or can they be found also outside of the text? Is there a relation between genre and the culture from which the text originates? The everyday activities of the European Unionʼs institutions are based mostly on written communication, thus the great number of international legal texts, which are very often trans- lated. The present paper attempts to characterize the factors which have the decisive influence on selecting a specific translational strategy by a translator and defining which strategies exert the biggest influence on the final form of the translation text. Moreover, based on the judicial text of the EU, there has been an attempt of specifying the extent to which the stand- ardization present at the linguistic level affects the occurrence of hybrid elements in texts.en
