Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki w dwóch syntezach nowożytnej historii Polski: Mariusza Markiewicza i Urszuli Augustyniak

Abstract
The article compares the way of discussing the figure and times of Michael I in two most popular syntheses of early modern history of Poland: Historia Polski 1492–1795 by Mariusz Markiewicz and Historia Polski 1572–1795 by Urszula Augustyniak. This comparative analysis aims to show similarities and differences in the implementation of the topic by both historians, which in turn allows – due to the synthetic nature of both studies – to draw conclusions regarding the knowledge of historiography about King Piast and the period of his reign at the time of the works’ creation. The results and conclusions presented – indicating, above all, a discernible gradual rehabilitative trend toward Jarema’s son in contemporary scholarship – may serve not only as a contribution to research on King Michael I and his era, but also as a point of departure for a broader discussion concerning selected methodological aspects of academic textbooks and historical syntheses.
