Abstract
Rudolf Fiby was a mathematician, scientist, programmer, but above all he was an important priest in the Slovak underground church, co-founder of the Fatima Community, editor of samizdat, and co-organizer of the Candlelight Demonstration. Fiby’s actions show that he was extremely courageous, not hes itating to sue the university that terminated his employment because of his reli gious beliefs. A short but firm statement: „I have the candle and the taste” encour aged the members of the Fatima Community, of which he was chairman in 1988, to protest boldly against the conditions in Czechoslovakia at the time, despite the threat of arrest
