Symbolika geograficzna herbów wybranych miast świata

Abstract

W artykule przedstawiono przykłady ciekawszych od strony geograficznej herbów miast świata. Skrótowo omówiono historię herbów miejskich i podstawowe reguły heraldyczne. Ze względu na podstawowe treści herby podzielono na 5 grup: architektoniczne, o motywach religijnych, własnościowe, mówiące i alegoryczne. Najbardziej interesujące dla geografa są te dwie ostatnie. Do nazwy miasta nawiązują herby mówiące (np. Berno, Jablonec nad Nysą, Lyon). Herby alegoryczne symbolicznie charakteryzują położenie miasta (Budapeszt, Sankt Petersburg), jego środowisko geograficzne (Murmańsk, Norylsk), podstawowe cechy gospodarcze miasta i okolicy (Darlington, Kiruna, Leeds, Workuta).

The article presents examples of interesting from the geographical point of view coats of arms of world cities. It briefly discusses the history of municipal coats of arms and basic heraldic rules. Due to the basic content of coats of arms they were divided into 5 groups: architectural, containing religious motifs, ownership, speakers and allegorical. The latter two are the most interesting for geographers. They refer to the name of the city emblems meaning (eg. Bern, Jablonec nad Nisou, Lyon). Allegorical coats of arms symbolically characterize the position of the city (Budapest, St. Petersburg), its geographical environment (Murmansk, Norilsk), basic economic characteristics of the city and its surroundings (Darlington, Kiruna, Leeds, Vorkuta).
