dc.description.abstractThe author of the paper presents the “conversion” of Wincenty Lutosławski, treated as a transformation of his philosophical views, as well as a fundamental change of life practice. The whole of the argument is based on Lutosławski’s struggle with idealism in the broadest sense of the term, which was an important point of reference throughout his intellectual biography. Chronological tracing of Lutosławski’s early statements shows that the religious-national turn in the life of the NeoMessianist was conditioned, inter alia, by his gradual acquaintance with and discussion of the achievements of the Polish idealists (the national philosophers of the of the mid-century) and his assessment of late nineteenthcentury culture and art, which influenced his reinterpretation of Plato’s philosophy. The conclusions also present a mechanism of worldview amplification characteristic of Lutosławski (called recalibrating incorporation) and demonstrate the importance of philological and diachronic research for the history of philosophy.en
