Abstract
The article attempts to present the role and significance of a probation officer in the process of adjudicating and carrying out one of the so-called probation measures that is the conditional suspension of the execution of a penalty imposed on the perpetrators of bulling under art. 207 of the Polish Criminal Code. The tasks carried out by the probation officer are extremely important in the context of the proper formation and implementation of the conditional suspension of the execution of sentence imposed on the indicated group of perpetrators. The tasks performed by the probation officer include e.g. providing the adjudicating authority with detailed information about the offender (community inquiry, pre-sentence report), supervising the offender who is under the probation supervision, monitoring the offender’s behaviour during the probation period (including the fulfilling of the so-called probation obligations imposed on the offender). The article presents and describes the importance of these tasks as well as the difficulties related to their performance.
