Wśród swoich i obcych. Józef Malewski ze wsi Jaroty (1945-1948)
Abstract
This article discusses the last years of the life of Józef Malewski, a pre-war Polish activist of the Warmia region, a member of the Union of Poles in East Prussia, a founder of a Polish minority school in the village of Jaroty, subject to compulsory purchase of property by Germany during the war and transferred to the Reich for labour. After returning to Poland and obtaining his Polish citizenship certificate in 1945, he engaged e.g. in settling property affairs between the local and immigrant people, he became a member of the Polish Western Union, contributed to quick opening of the school, was an activist for the community, and in 1946 he was a consultant for the “Zagon” Publishing Cooperative, which published farming guidebooks. The article is based on the documents found recently in the ruins of Malewski’s house in Jaroty.
