Abstract
This article aims to introduce the genesis, course and the consequences of the Muslim - Orthodox conflict in Cyprus. Much attention has been paid to presentation of this conflict’s circumstances: historical, geographical, political, cultural and religious. We will try to analyse the issue of instrumental exploitation of religion in order to mobilise the conflicted groups in the Cyprus crisis. It will also be significant to examine the role of religion as a factor promoting reconciliation and forgiveness of the contesting factions.
