Zmiany typów demograficznych małych miast w Polsce w latach 2004-2013

Abstract

Negatywne procesy ludnościowe, związane z II przejściem demograficznym, na początku lat 90. XX wieku dotarły do Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej, w tym do Polski. Zmiany te utrudniają zrównoważony rozwój w poszczególnych jednostkach administracyjnych, zwłaszcza w małych miastach. W związku z tym celem pracy było określenie zmian w strukturze typów demograficznych małych miast w Polsce w latach 2004-2013. W badaniach przyjęto, za Głównym Urzędem Statystycznym, że małe miasta to ośrodki posiadające administracyjne prawa miejskie i liczące mniej niż 20 000 mieszkańców. Zakres czasowy pracy obejmuje lata 2004-2013. Typy demograficzne małych miast określono za pomocą typologii Webba. Stwierdzono, że w analizowanym okresie zmniejszył się udział ośrodków miejskich o charakterze progresywnym a zwiększył o regresywnym. Największy wpływ na kształtowanie się liczby ludności rozpatrywanych jednostek osadniczych w Polsce w latach 2004-2013 wywierał nie tylko ujemny przyrost naturalny, ale przede wszystkim ujemne saldo migracji.

Negative demographic processes, connected to stage two demographic transition, at the beginning of 90s. of 20th century reached Central and Easter Europe including Poland. These changes impede sustainable development in particular administrative units, especially in small cities. Due to this, the aim of this paper was to determine changes in structure of demographic types of small cities in Poland between 2004 and 2013. It was assumed in the paper, following the Central Statistical Office of Poland, that small cities are centres with administrative city character and less than 20 000 inhabitants. The time range covers the period between 2004 and 2013. Demographic types of small cities were determined with the usage of Webb’s typology. It was stated that the share of city centres with progressive character decreased and the share of those with regressive character increased in the analysed period. Not only a negative natural increase, but, above all, a negative net migration rate had the greatest influence on shaping the number of inhabitants of the analysed settlement units between 2004 and 2013.
