Early in the 20th century, the Slovak philosopher, theologian, and bishop Samuel Štefan Osuský became a powerful intellectual opponent of the totalitarian governments. His special fusion of intellectual rigor and theological profundity allowed him to attack fascism, Nazism, and Bolshevism as pseudo-re ligious doctrines that dehumanized people and compromised morality. Works by Osuský, such as War and Religion and The Philosophy of Bolshevism, Fascism, and Hitlerism, offer insightful analysis of the perils of equating political and religious power. Even now, his legacy provides vital viewpoints on preserving moral recti tude and human dignity in the face of ideological fanaticism.en
