Abstract
Plato and the Metamorphoses of the Notion of Philosophy / Plato redefines the notion of philosophy in response to the crisis of the Athenian polis. He introduces bios philosophikos as a new way of life and pays attention to the therapeutic aspect of philosophy. It is suggested that Plato, in his description of the political crisis, could have been inspired by the Thucydidean work. This re-definition is presented within the broader context of the development of the notion of philosophy in the pre-Platonic period.
