dc.description.abstractThis essay, while seemingly contradicting the principles of conservative theory, offers a comparative analysis of a selection of key concepts inherent to the conservative mindset. Beside the Aristotelian phronesis or practical wisdom, it focuses also on kairos, or the right moment for action. The author points out that time constraints inherent in the realm of the political sphere make agents require tacit, hands-on knowledge on how to deal with pressing issues, and phronesis is the term referring to this sort of practical skills. The paper then, differentiating formal from informal knowledge, aims to demonstrate close relationships between the activities of an individual with the interests of a community, closing the discussion with reference to Oakeshott’s, MacIntyre’s and Tocqueville’s ideas of common wisdom and practice.en
