dc.description.abstractThe article describes briefly the history of art therapy. It attempts to shed some light on the sense of existence and the need for this type of therapy. It also pays attention to the fundamental role of art in human life. Through referring to the concept of catharsis, the author indicates that the influence of art on men and women has been known since the ancient times. The article lists definitions and describes types of art therapy, as well as its various functions. This interdisciplinary field of knowledge supports individuals in proper functioning in numerous aspects of their lives, both in terms of axiology and ethics, or esthetics. The text outlines also some benefits that a human being derives from an act of creation.en
