Złota księga pamiątkowa „Skarbofermu”
Abstract
In 1922 a Polish - French company was established in order to lease state coal mines in the Upper Silesia, which were taken over by the Polish government from the Prussian authorities. Its name was: Polskie Kopalnie Skarbowe na Górnym Śląsku, Spółka Dzierżawna, Spółka Akcyjna w Kato-wicach (Société Fermière des Mines Fiscales de l’ Etat Polonais en Haute-Silésie, Société Anonyme à Katowice). It was simply called „Skarboferm”.The commemorative book of „Skarboferm” dates back to the 1923 and was called „golden”. This precious and unique relic belongs to the collection of the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, in the Artistic-Historical Musuem Collection of the Cabinet of Mining History in the Department of Mining History and Mining Technique. The majority of the pages is decoratively trimmed and comprises autographs of outstanding personages from different spheres of social life and from different countries, which belonged to the delegation visiting „Skarboferm” between 1923-1938. Julian Zagórowski, who was entrusted with the book during the II World War, afterwards pasted decorative photos illustrating the history of the company and obituary notices of the former workers into it.The author of this article discussed in detail only these visits from the commemorative book of „Skarboferm” which he assessed as the most significant for the company and the most interesting. Other delegations visiting „Skarboferm” which were mentioned in the golden book, were presented here in a chronological order. In the author’s view, a vast array of the documentation in the commemorative book followed the real activity of the enterprise, as Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski said: “Of the companies representing foreign capital I can mention «Skarboferm» in Silesia as an organisation working positively and understanding the relations between the foreign capital and the state and society in which it lives and earns money”.
