Abstract
The article discusses the problems of values in the Jan Kochanowski’s poetry. Kochanowski was the real creator of Polish language and literature. In the first, theoretical, part the author analyzes the theory of values and their importance in the culture. She describes aesthetic, literary, philosophical and metaphysical values, their role and central position in many developed cultures. Then, she focuses on the values, which was important in the poetry of Kochanowski. The author also tries to settle some problems, for instance the right definition of the word “value”. The final stage of the text includes general assessments relating to Kochanowski’s enormous talent and personality, and also his impact on the development of Polish culture.
