Liqueszenzen im Krakauer „Plenarmissale” des AKKK Ms 3

Abstract
In its notation, the Missal AKKK Ms 3 knows three basic graphic forms of liquescence, following the oldest adiastematic neume manuscripts. With these there is partly agreement in the application, partly the codex goes its own way. However, the graphic versions vary greatly, especially in the form of liquescence („plica”) corresponding to the cephalicus, in particular the direction and thickness of the hairline. While for the epiphonus the pitches of the two notes can be determined by the length of the hairline, the indication of the pitch of liquescence note in the other cases seems to be largely open and left to the knowledge of the singer. However, there are cases where a determination is possible. In some cases, the use of liquescence in conjunction with tone doubling seems to serve to intensify the sound of the text with interpretive intent.
