Abstract
The author analyses the phenomenon of declining readership in contemporary Poland through the lenses of the longue duree of classicism. With this end in view, he refers to ideas of selected authors from various periods of history, from antiquity (Plato), to 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. We can, therefore, hear voices of Plato, Adam Mickiewicz, Lucjan Siemieński, Aleksander Świętochowski, etc.
