dc.description.abstractThe role of silence in the Bohemian religious disputes of the 15th century. The Czech religious reformers of the 15th century were deeply involved in discussing their views both with their opponents and their followers. The discussed matters seemed quite often more important for the participants than their own safety or the consequences that could follow sometimes fierce quarrels. On the other hand, as one can see, silence played quite an important role in the discussions of the time. It was a weapon used to exclude from disputes particular speakers or even whole groups. In that case the persecuted debaters usually tried to fight with the exclusion and finish the period of keeping them in silence. But sometimes, after achieving such a result they conducted a self-censorship, omitting some particular themes or avoiding revoking painful events from the past. The article shows several modes of appearance of silence during the religious disputes of the 15th century Bohemia and explains them on the basis of the contemporary sources. The letters, polemic treatises and manifestos are analysed from this point of view.en
