Abstract
Japanese writer, Tanizaki Jun'ichiro (1886-1965) is an interesting subject for transcultural research. From this perspective Japanese culture plays a significant role. Works of Tanizaki Jun'ichiro are a telling example of wellcombined elements of Japanese, Chinese and European cultures. His choices and atittude towards life and art present themselves as typical dilemmas for 19th -20th century Japanese intellectuals. Finding the way to reconcile Japanese culture with strong European influences was the main theme of Tanizakis novels.
